“A word of encouragement during a failure is worth more than an hour of praise after success.” -Unknown

“There is truth in this statement, for a word of encouragement during a difficult time or after a failure or loss can do wonders for our spirit and our outlook.  However, a word of encouragement should not be held until a trial or a failure.

Words of encouragement are at times needed to lift us and to give us strength, even when we are achieving success and doing well.  It is not weakness to desire an encouraging word from someone.  I worked for a company for seven years and was a regional manager and I had confidence, and I knew that I was doing a good job for the results were plain to see, but a word of encouragement on occasion from my boss would have gone a long way.

At times we need our sacrifice and efforts to be noticed.  When I tendered my resignation to that company the departmental vice president called me and told me that he was shocked that I had sought another job for I was the best manager within the company.  I told him that if on occasion I had heard those words that I would not have sought a new position.

Even those with all the trappings of success and confidence need a kind word and a word of encouragement from time to time.  We motivate others by our actions but also by our words, so encourage someone with a kind word this day.”
