“Any kid will run an errand for you, if you ask at bedtime.”  -Red Skelton

“Desire increases motivation, and the desire of a child to stay up past their bedtime is a strong motivator.  Children have needs, but they also have wants and desires, and parents with wisdom will guide their children in helping them to see the power of desire when joined unto work and sacrifice.

As a child I was paid a weekly allowance, but it was not given to me.  It was earned by completing assigned chores.  There is a blessing in learning the value of desire and motivation at an early age.  Work deserves a reward, and when children are rewarded for their good deeds, they learn that good works bring good reward.

There is a law of the harvest that we need to remember and also instill in our children:  We will always reap more than we sow.  If we sow good works we shall reap good things abundantly, and if we sow evil we shall reap bad things abundantly.  Give errands and chores to your children for learning the value of work and reward is a great lesson, and learning the power and joy of working together as a family shall build a strong foundation.

As a child I would do most anything to avoid going to bed so that I could stay up with my parents a little longer.  I see in my grandchildren that this has not changed.  Often children desire to stay up for they want to be with their parents, so use this time to create good memories and precious moments that bring your family closer together.“
