Don’t Double Your Trouble

“In trouble, to be troubled is to have your trouble doubled.” -Daniel Defoe

“Troubles come unto all of us at some point in our lives, and if we allow the troubles of life to cause undue stress, fret, and worry, then we have added trouble to our troubles.  In sunshine or in storm we are to honor the Lord and we are to praise Him and look steadfastly unto Him.

There will be no true peace without surrender and no true surrender without trust and acceptance.

There is an old proverb that states, ‘Worry often gives a small thing a big shadow.’   Fret and worry can make large a small problem and can give power to the imaginations and fears of the heart.

If we will surrender all upon the altar of heaven, we will find peace even in the trials that will come.  Trust in the Lord, trust in His love, His mercy, His perfect timing, and accept His will in the solutions that He provides.  In times of trouble we need to face the trial with faith and assurance, and seek to not increase our troubles by allowing unnecessary stress and worry, for worry is exhausting and most often is an exercise that brings no true solution to the problem at hand.”

These words make me think about how I am constantly telling my children that we get to choose our attitude in life – regardless of the situation.  Bad things are going to happen.  We are going to be hurt, upset, disappointed, etc.  But in every moment, in every trial, we can choose how we respond.  We can choose to remain positive.  We can choose to not add troubles to our trouble by choosing not to stress.

We can also choose to keep our faith.  Putting our faith and trust in the Lord does not mean we will never struggle, but it does mean we will have the ability to face struggles knowing we have a Mighty God on our side as our strong defense.  Trusting God’s will for your life allows perfect peace in any trial.
